Veronica received her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, and her Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She worked in cardiology and ICU as an RN for 10+ years, in retail clinics as an FNP, and in Community Mental Health in Asheville and the Winston Salem and Statesville areas of NC as a PMHNP. The majority of her PMHNP training and experience has been with  Meadows Behavioral Health in Wickenburg, AZ where she has provided  psychiatric services since 2016. Veronica will look at the "big picture" of your overall health, and how your chronic physical illness and conditions affect your mental health and vice versa. She will also take into consideration lifestyle choices, relationships, stress management, and your connection to family, spirit, and community.

Licensed in family medicine as well as psychiatry, Veronica takes a truly holistic and whole person approach regarding mental and physical health and strives to engage her patients in their care by meeting them where they are. She feels that medications have their place and can often help calm the nervous system and/or bring a person's thinking back on line so they can engage in the therapeutic process to do the real work they need to for proper healing to occur. She believes in the innate healing wisdom of our bodies and minds and in the healing power of nature. Our work together will be to find and set up the environment for optimum healing to occur. This may include medications, herbs, or other therapeutic modalities including meditation and working on family of origin and childhood and adult traumas.

Veronica specializes in the treatment of psychological trauma, particularly how it relates to substance abuse and other ways us humans tend to self-medicate our pain, including drugs, alcohol, sex and relationships, food and/or restricting food, shopping, gambling, and work addiction. The effects of psychological trauma affect different people differently and may play out as many different diagnoses including Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Attention issues, Bipolar Disorders, Borderline and other Personality Disorders, Chemical dependency, Sex and Love Addictions, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Eating disorders and body image issues, Family of origin issues, and many others. Veronica believes that trauma causes most of our problems and by ignoring the trauma we are merely surviving and robbing ourselves of the chance to live fulfilling lives. Come let Veronica guide you on your path to THRIVING instead of merely surviving!

At Moonflower Medicine we listen! If you have ever felt like you were not being heard at a previous psychiatric or medical providers’ office, you are not alone. Feeling dismissed or ignored is the #1 complaint that patients have when they do not feel satisfied with or a connection to their providers in our current medical and psychiatric models. At Moonflower Psychiatry we value our patient's story, and we aim to meet you where you are. If you feel you may benefit from medical or psychotropic medications, we will explore that avenue, but we are also not afraid to dive deep and explore other treatment options or to evaluate previous diagnoses more closely. We believe in the infinite wisdom and innate healing powers of the body and mind and encourage patients to check in regularly and to be active participants in their healthcare plan. Come to Moonflower Medicine and Psychiatry, and allow us to work collaboratively with you to design your uniquely personal and comprehensive care plan!

Veronica is licensed in family medicine as well as psychiatry and can perform  pharmacogenomic testing  where applicable and is able to prescribe psychotropic and other medications when appropriate. She does not routinely prescribe controlled substances, but will assist you in discontinuing them if that is your goal. In the event a controlled substance is prescribed, a controlled substance contract will be required. In the event a medication is weaned or discontinued, a different patient contract may be required. Please go to the "contact Veronica" button in the Who We Are section above to schedule an appointment for medication management.

Therapy Services

Veronica is trained in several trauma modalities including Pia Mellody's post induction therapy (PIT) and somatic experiencing. I have trained with many senior fellows at The Meadows Behavioral Health, including Pia Mellody, Peter Levine, Shelley Uram, Kevin McCauley, and Patrick and Stephanie Carnes. I have found the teachings of Pia Mellody to be profound in engaging patients through real life relational skills to make lifelong changes in their mental, physical, and spiritual health. Please go to the "contact Veronica" button in the Who We Are section above to schedule an appointment for therapy services with or without medication management.

Tele-psychiatry

Telepsychiatric services are vital during trying times like the COVID-19 epidemic. You can address your mental health needs in the comfort of your own home via a HIPPA approved telepsychiatry platform if you live in NC, AZ, HI, and CO.

We have offices in Asheville, NC and Charlotte, NC. And traffic is getting worse in both of these cities. In an attempt to alleviate the added stress of having to drive across town, Veronica can see you via telepsychiaty in any of these states.

Telepsychiatry allows you to be seen by Veronica in the comfort of your own home. Please go to the "contact Veronica" button in the Who We Are section above if you would like to inquire about telepsychiatry services.
